Scuba Diving
I became a PADI-certified Open Water Diver in August of 2007, certified through the LaGrange Dive Center. It's something I've been wanting to do since I was in middle school, so I'm glad I finally got around to it. Loving it so far, though based only on two trips: certification trip to Panama City and another trip to the Florida Keys in November, which unfortunately coincided with Hurricane Noel's trip through the area, so we only got to go out diving once.
Intramural Sports
I've played softball in the faculty intramural softball league for several years, though we haven't had a season in a few years due to lack of interest in other departments. This past Fall I played flag football with a team (The Filthy Pilgrims) comprised mostly of English grad students. We're looking into joining the student intramural league for softball this Spring.
Church
At church I'm involved in the children's ministry and drama/creative arts ministry. With the children's ministry, I'm a small group leader (similar to being a Sunday School teacher) for 4th & 5th graders. I was the 5th grade boys' leader for several years, but currently have the 4th & 5th grade girls. I also am the elementary school music leader twice a month and fill in when necessary as a 3rd-5th grade large group teacher.
With the drama ministry, I direct and occasionally write drama skits for the adult church service or special services like our Christmas Eve service. The biggest undertaking so far was this past year's Christmas Eve service, for which I co-directed a 30-minute musical called A Christmas Tale.
