Scuba Diving
I became a PADI-certified Open Water Diver in August of 2007, certified through the LaGrange Dive Center. It's something I've been wanting to do since I was in middle school, so I'm glad I finally got around to it. Loving it so far, though based only on three trips: certification trip to Panama City; another trip to the Florida Keys in November 2007, which unfortunately coincided with Hurricane Noel's trip through the area, allowing us to only go out diving once; an impromptu dive inside the aquarium at EPCOT in July 2008 (impromptu because I was in town for a karate tournament and just happened to find out about the opportunity while down there, not because I decided to just jump in); and then a repeat of the EPCOT dive in July of 2009. A video of that dive:

Intramural/Rec Sports
I played softball in the faculty intramural softball league for several years, though we haven't had a season in a few years due to lack of interest in other departments. The past two falls I played flag football with teams ("The Filthy Pilgrims" and "Hot N Ready") comprised mostly of English grad students. And this past summer I got to play softball through the Auburn rec department in the adult co-ed league; our team, Demasi's Demons, was mostly comprised of English and Political Science graduate students.

Church
At church I'm involved in the children's ministry and drama/creative arts ministry. With the children's ministry, I'm a small group leader (similar to being a Sunday School teacher) for 4th & 5th graders. I was the 5th grade boys' leader for several years, but currently have the 4th & 5th grade girls. I also am the elementary school music leader twice a month and fill in when necessary as elementary school large group teacher.

With the drama ministry, I direct and occasionally write drama skits for the adult church service or special services like our Christmas Eve service. The biggest undertaking so far has been the past two years' Christmas Eve services; in 2007 I co-directed a 30-minute musical called "A Christmas Tale," and in 2008 re-wrote/edited another musical called "Imagine Christmas," and in 2009 helped rewrite and edit and then co-directed and produced "Gabriel's Christmas Story."
